Whale Point Cabin-Your Adventure awaits!
Two bedroom or singles available
Free high-speed wireless internet
Whale Point is located on the eastern side of Prince of Wales Island in the Southeast Panhandle of Alaska north of Thorne Bay and south of Whale Pass. We are located at the end of the road on the Clarence Strait with views of whales and wildlife. Perfect for friends, families and businesses to relax, get away from “civilization” and rejuvenate while seeking world class ocean and freshwater fishing adventures.
The ocean fishing grounds not only offer world-class king salmon fishing but also spectacular silver salmon fishing. Guests also fish for a variety of bottom fish including halibut, lingcod, red snapper and sea bass. While out on the ocean you will be amazed by the scenic surroundings. Islands and rock formations seem to erupt from the water teaming with wildlife. Whales swim among the boats treating spectators to acrobatic displays. There are sea lion rookeries, sea otters, porpoises and abundant water foul and eagles soaring above the boats for spectacular photograph and video opportunities. Breathtaking is the only way to describe it!
Prince of Wales Island is the third largest island in the United States, with miles of road to explore. Those seeking Alaska River Fishing adventures select from guided or self-guided trips fishing for the elusive steelhead in the spring, Coho in the summer, and cutthroat or dolly vardon trout year-round. Resident wildlife you are likely to encounter are deer, black bear and eagles at home in a lush deciduous rainforest canopy.

Our stay at Whale Point Cabin was nothing less than magical. From our first contact with Bill Cahill many months ago, he was responsive, helpful, and patient with all of our many questions regarding the best way to get to Coffman Cove, groceries, etc. He also called the day after we arrived to ask how everything was. The property managers, Steve and Connie, are much more than that -- they became friends and very generously took us out fishing on their boat. The cabin is amazing -- you can sit on the front porch and see the whales, and we could hear them singing at night. We saw whales every day, along with beautiful rainbows, sunsets, eagles, and more. From the cabin it was an easy drive to Luck Lake, Eagle River, Hatchery Creek, and other beautiful hiking areas with wonderful views. The cabin is rustic, but it was fine for our needs -- we didn't spend much time in the cabin and we had everything we needed. It was clean and comfortable. The best part is the breakfast bar where you can just sit and gaze out at the whales and scenery as you eat. Note that the beds in the second bedroom are twin, not double beds. It didn't matter to us, but could have if we had come with more people or brought kids. The kitchen and laundry room have basic supplies, so no need to bring things like coffee filters, laundry detergent, etc. We weren't sure about that, but there were plenty of supplies and really lots of food that people left in cabinets. There is a small grocery store on the island, but as Bill advised us, it's a good idea to order food in Ketchikan and have it delivered by float plane. We will definitely be back.
